PhD student/Postdoc (2017-2018)

I studied Life Science & Technology at the University of Leiden and Delft University of Technology, where I obtained my masters degree in 2012. During my studies I investigated the effect of innate immune responses against virus induced membrane modifications and the onset of diabetes Type I in the rat islets of Langerhans. For both research questions I used Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) on chemically fixated, stained and embedded samples. I then started my PhD in the Bionanoscience Department under the guidance of Andreas Engel to work on the use of femto-pipettes for cryo-EM sample preparation. The aim of this development is to structurally study transient cellular processes such as aquaporin-2 trafficking regulation. At the start of 2018 I joined the Electron Nanoscopy Lab where I will continue working on new sample preparation methods for cryo-EM.

Jochem is now Senior Scientist Downstream processing at Batavia Biosciences
